ditto :: dining room that makes mauve glam
Monday, June 4, 2012 by {darlene}

I have news that may be displeasing to those who remember late 80’s bridesmaid dresses with disdain:

Mauve is back!

However, today’s Ditto may win you over. Mauve has a marvelous side, no?

{As always, I look forward to hearing from you and finding out what you would ditto, too. So, be thinking!}

DITTO :: {WHAT I WOULD STEAL FROM THIS SPACE}:

1.   MAUVE.

It is the warmer pink side of lavender, and it plays nicely with warm and cool tones. This mauve stays classy in small doses: the smashingly beautiful curtains, the art, the dining chairs, and the ‘en masse’ roses. This picture, and this picture, have started my mauve-wheels a-turning.

2.   A HUGE ANTIQUE RUG.

Someday, I hope to Ditto this in my own home.  I truly love the look of a good quality, antique rug that fills the room. The pile is always worn-low but comfortable, the pattern is intricate, the colors are flexible. This particular rug, which pulls in warm tones and cool tones, is a stunner in my book.

3.   SIMPLE, MODERN FURNISHINGS THAT ARE STILL COMFORTABLE.

Some modern pieces have lines that are so stark, they don’t invite you to stay. That is not the case with the clean-lined chairs that encircle this table.  They are very streamlined, but still inviting. And the table, which also have very modern lines, appears comfortable and perfect for a long gathering with friends.

4.   MOLDINGS TO DIE FOR.

What is there to say about the stunning moldings in this Paris apartment? If any of us could ditto them, you’d better believe we would!

5.   THE CONTRAST OF HARD VS SOFT.

Soft curtains. Hard marble. Soft rug. Hard edged table. Soft chair cushions. Hard lacquer chair. Soft white walls. Hard black floors. Hard touches vs. soft touches: this adds so much interest to the space! Contrast that I can love. Of course, ditto.

6.   A FIREPLACE OF TREMENDOUS BEAUTY.

This fireplace is an architectural beauty of solid marble and bold proportions. Please let me know if you are planning to ditto this baby!!!

7. THAT FLOOR.

Please, oh, please don’t miss checking out that amazing, ebony chevron floor.  Ditto!!!!!!

8.   GLAM TOUCHES.

I love some wonderful high-gloss glamour, I tell ya. The glam touches in this Paris apartment are not shy: A breathtaking crystal chandelier, gilded mirrors spread throughout, decadent roses, that marble fireplace {!!!!!}, ceiling-to-floor silk drapes, and the overall grand scale of the space. Can you just imagine walking into this room to eat your dinner? The glam life is for me. Ditto, I say!

* * * * * * *

SO much goodness.

Love anything I did not mention? or…

WHAT WOULD YOU DITTO {STEAL} FROM THIS SPACE, 1-8? SOMETHING ELSE?

I LOVE HEARING YOUR THOUGHTS!
