#projectfhdkitchen update + kitchen vision
Wednesday, June 15, 2016 by {darlene}

I am excited to be updating you on my kitchen project!

I have been really silent about it because that is very much a part of my creative process. If I get too much input, I have learned, I start to lose track of what I really LOVE and start to settle for things I just “like.” So…. I have not asked for many opinions, and I think it has been paying off.

I am happy to share a few of my latest decisions!!

#projectfhdkitchen vision via @fieldstonehill

Some of my choices (kinda clockwise):

1. matte black subway tile on the main kitchen wall and another accent wall

2. (not pictured) painted white brick will be on some of the other walls, and I am excited about that textural element

3. We picked our marble and I am so in LOVE! The piece is a Calacatta Altissimo, and this is probably my biggest splurge in the entire kitchen. And YES, I know about the risks of marble, so don’t tell me. MWAH!

Here is another pic of our slabs over on Instagrammy.

4. Feast on my future floors. YAY! I have loved these floors for a LONG time and I am just gonna go ahead and GO FOR IT! We are reusing our current oak floors in the parlor and dining room, and replacing our slate (I won’t miss you: dear, cold, hard floors that hurt my back!) kitchen floors with oak. Then we will be giving all of the oak floors this pretty treatment!

5. My hood! This is what my range hood is going to look like, except instead of black, it will be white – to pop out against my black subway tile.

6. I am 80% sure I am going with French Gray from Farrow and Ball for our cabinets. I am also considering Cromarty and Lamp Room Gray.

7. It will be different, but the main wall of my kitchen will have this awesome, contrast-y feel.

8. Love the white and black and brass and wood feel!  That is my main palate.

9. Definitely doing a built in banquette with channeled seat cushions. Hooray!

*******

Since our kitchen is COMPLETELY EMPTY right now, I cannot wait to see this come to fruition. We are about 2 months out of seeing that happen (yes. You read that right. I will be KITCHENLESS for 2 months!!)

That is the latest on our evolving project!! I will also continue to share updates on my Instagram feed. See you there as well! HUGS!

Just working on my daily quest to #LiveWithBeauty!

Most of you know that I am an essential oil nut. As in, I LOVE THEM big time! Still, here on the blog, I keep my oil chatter (and obsession) to a minimum so as not to gush too much, mostly keeping it to my sidebar and ad sections. But tonight I am doing something so fun that I had to hop on and tell you about it!

I will be going LIVE tonight to share my favorite beauty routine. And no surprise, it is all-natural and all oily and all the pretty, yummy smelling things. No toxins for this face of mine!

Your Most Beautiful Summer essential oils

I will be sharing secrets for what I do to care for my skin every day to keep it fresh and regenerating. And, how I do all of this without nasty toxic products. Click here to join the event (you get to watch it live from the comfy corner of your own sofa; 9pm EST/8pm Central).

I do hope you will tune in to join us! (PS there are GIVEAWAYS!!)

And, if it is finally time for you to get started with essential oils (because, by golly, it is!) then I would be honored if you would sign up with me and the awesome support that our group of friends offers. This is the link that will tell you how to sign up and walk you through it. And I am offering plenty of free gifts to my sign ups because that is how I roll.

See you tonight!!! Live, from my home to yours.

Follow Up: The 3000 Thing Challenge
Monday, May 2, 2016 by {darlene}

Over the last year, I decided that I had been spending WAY to much time tending to my STUFF. I was so tired of spending more time taking care of my stuff than connecting with my HUMANS. It was time for a BIG change!

So, I made several decisions over the past year to stop serving my stuff, so that I have more time for my family and for my personal pursuits. One of the main things, of course, that I had to do was pare down! I went on a Binge-Cleaning Challenge, with my 3000 Thing Challenge kicking off in January.

3000ThingChallenge-follow up-fieldstonehill

So here is the follow up: how did this challenge work out for me?

First thing you should know: I did not hit 3,000 Things. I was closer to 2,000.

Second thing you should know: I cleaned more stuff out of my house than in any other clean-out I have ever done. #WIN

Friends, this challenge worked better than any other cleaning frenzy I had ever set my mind to. And the secret was in the “nearly impossible number” of 3000 Things. Somehow, trying to reach the number of 3000 made me just a touch more RUTHLESS when tossing things or passing them on. And, friends, I needed a good dose of “ruthless.”

One tip: If you choose to do a challenge like this within a month’s time, think of 3000 as being a “challenge,” NOT a “must.” If you feel like a failure for not hitting 3,000, you are not giving credit to the fact that you just rid your home of 1,473 things!

That said, I am reading a GREAT book right now, and it is speaking to me right in this place of Simplifying and Cleaning my Slate. The words are refreshing, and it can be read in bits and pieces. I like to read it with my morning caffeine, and then put it down once I feel my motivation bubbling up… then I take advantage of my caffeine and run to clean out a drawer or something! All the while counting, 1, 722… 1,723…. 1,724. And if I only throw out 5 things, I call it a win. Because those were 5 things that took up my time and my space and now I am free from them!

That is what the 3,000 Thing Challenge has been all about.

because…. THIS:

Clutter wants to take over and make you feel powerless

(killer fantastic quote from the aforementioned awesome book I am reading^^^^)

Preach it girl. DONT let your stuff control you. Yes, it takes time to undo years of piling and ignoring, but stop letting your stuff control you. You are in charge around here. You can stop serving STUFF and make room for serving your family, your dreams, your hobbies… and feel the space to breathe.

Friends, this girl is ALL SORTS of talented. If you don’t read her blog yet, The Inspired Room, you simply must. And get her book. Because it is really, really good. The Newest Room In Your House: The Patio
Tuesday, April 26, 2016 by {darlene}

It is hard to believe how fast the days fly, and summer is nearly here!

ALMOST time to sit by the fire pit. ALMOST time to watch the sun set and listen to crickets and chase fireflies. Yep. I think I am ready.

Patio planning is not on the radar at Fieldstone Hill for another 2 years (hello. kitchen.), but that does not stop me from my full time job: DREAMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had this image in my Inspiration Outdoors Pinboard (I would love for you to join me over at Pinterest!) for several years now, and I STILL love it just as much. That is how you really know when something is a keeper. The greens and the whites just grab me, and I love a classy pergola and outdoor chandy!:

I wrote a fun article over at BHG. com, all about Five Brilliant Ways to Redo the Patio. Hop on over there for the 5 ways you can see your patio as an actual extra room for your house.

Inside Out, I say!

See you over at BHG! Let me know how you like the article, friends!!! xo

A heart to heart:

I love these oils. I am SO thankful for them, and at this point, I truly can’t imagine my life without them. I remember a moment, about a year ago, when the thought came to me: what if I NEVER had my Stress Away again? What if I had to go back to life before YL’s peppermint (THE best peppermint in the world)? What if I couldn’t smell Frankincense again? It reminded me how precious these oils truly are, and why they are mentioned over 180 times in the Bible, the most historically cross-referenced book in all of history.

I know that not all of you who are reading this are parents, but to those who are: I never want to go back to that time when I had to tell my kids, “I’m so sorry honey, there is nothing I can do.” There is always something available to safely and naturally support my kids’ wellness and to soothe them and ease even their worries. Friends, to me, this is PRICELESS. Priceless, I tell you.

If you don’t yet feel this way about essential oils, I challenge you: TRY THEM AND USE THEM. And, trust me.. you WILL. You will one day wake up and realize that you have gotten rid of toxins in your bathroom cabinet, your beauty cabinet, and your under-sink cabinet. And that will merely be the side-benefit.

This morning, I am thankful for all that Young Living and these oils have blessed me with: Wholesome Wellness. Healthy Abundance.
