ditto worthy house tour :: rich and saturated elegance

Ditto Worthy House Tour: Rich and Saturated

Happy {ditto} Monday!_peacock

You simply must check out this ditto-worthy home. I am in love!

{This Houston home, which belongs to the Moldawer family, is a stunner. Interior Design by Jan Showers.}

What I would ditto about this overall style:

1. This classy space is rich in color, texture, and gold. Each room has the inclusion of a saturated color pop that is so dreamy.

2. Drapes take center stage in these rooms, and certainly have my attention here. Ceiling to floor, they add the drama and the dressmaker details.

3. The fabrics are gorgeous, with saturated silks and velvets that can’t be ignored.

4.  I love the contrast happening in every room between cool tones and warm tones.

5. A drop of gold enters every room, adding to the richness.

6. Classic, elegant simplicity enters each room, yet every room includes a pop of modern art and color. Right up my alley.

The Inspired Room Tour (Keeping it Real)
Monday, October 26, 2015 by {darlene}

One of my favorite-est friends in all of blogland is the lovely Melissa Michaels. I actually met her on the day my very first post here at Fieldstone Hill Design went live. We sat together 5 years ago at the Allume conference (formerly called Relevant), and became instant friends. She is a genuine spirit with a heart of gold, and you probably know her already because her blog is wildly popular and award winning: The Inspired Room. Now, she is an author to 2 books, and we will undoubtedly be hearing more and more from this wonderful, encouraging author.

I have, in my hot little hands, an advance copy of The Inspired Room, Melissa’s gorgeous coffee table book with “Simple Ideas to Love the Home You Have.” The first thing that is ‘inspired’ is the cover of this book! It is so very pretty. Which, ya know, is kind of an important feature in a coffee table book.

The Inspired Room - New Coffee Table Book

Along with the book came a fun invitation to share an “Inspired Room” in my own home (and stay tuned! You get to play along too!).

A little secret about me: I don’t really like to read much. Ignoring the fact that I have read Gone with the Wind three times, I NEVER finish a book. Which is why the Coffee table book was meant for me.

Melissa’s book is like a collection of very inspiring yet QUICK reads. The book can easily be digested one cup of coffee at a time. Thank you, Melissa. You are the hands and feet of an angel to this momma with ADD tendencies who happens to love decorating books.

All that to say, I poured over some sections of Melissa’s gorgeous book, and my favorite little sections in the book are those called “Keeping it Real.” In these little snippets, Melissa will share a true story of her own decorating mishaps and stumbles. So in the spirit of keeping it real, I thought I would share 3 pics of beloved rooms in our home… and the real decorating funnies, fails and mishaps that accompanied them:

{Our daughter’s beloved nursery}

Keeping it Real:

The Peruvian costume is held to the wall by duct tape. So are all of the bases of the curtains, so they will stay put.

Keeping it Real:

The cowhide rug covers the spot where I hot-glued two rugs together (yes, I really need to post about that!). The coffee table books are strategically placed to cover huge scratches in our coffee table. And those frames (which are now filled) were empty because of a project I procrastinated on for two whole years.

{our entry way}

Keeping it Real:

Hiding lots of things here. The chairs have a hideous upholstery of vinyl, which is falling apart (hence, how I got them for $25 for the pair). So, they are currently covered in sheepskin throws. Also, the ottoman in the middle may have THE ugliest fabric known to man, so it is covered in a shawl that I used to enjoy wearing. Now my ottoman wears it. The umbrella stand contains no cute umbrellas: only ugly little purse-sized umbrellas, a few matchbox cars, some trash, and without-a-doubt, some cheese-itz crackers.

Join Melissa in keeping it real. First of all, I know your home and your coffee table will love you for pre-ordering her book. Be the first one to get your hands on this beauty.

Secondly, I hope you will join all us in sharing our Inspired Rooms! See the pic below and head here for details.

Five Faves: 5 dream baths
Tuesday, October 20, 2015 by {darlene}

Five Faves: 5 dream baths

Fieldstone Hill does not have a master bath, technically. But you know what a dreamer I am, and you had better believe that, in my sleep, I design dreamy master bathrooms – featuring, of course, dreamy baths.

Five Faves from Fieldstone Hill Design

I am a bath girl. Probably because I have Italian hair that behaves itself better if I wash it less. And probably because half of the year our house is chilly because it is like an historic ice-box made of stone and leaky windows (all lovely, but leaky nonetheless). And, probably because I learned that if you lock your toddler in the bathroom with you, you can watch them play while you take a bath as opposed to a shower.

I have learned how to make a luxurious ritual out of my bath routine, and I aim to make it my spa moment of the day. I wrote about a bunch of spa tips in this post, and I still use these tips almost daily. Why not live like you have a spa in your house?

So, going along with that spa theme, you had better believe there will be a heavy spa influence in my future dream bath. And on that note, I give you my latest Five Faves!

* * *

1 // black, matte walls. chevron floors. brass antique fixtures. simple modern meets dramatic architecture. towel warmer.

bathroom1

2 // a pool-like bath in the middle of the floor? yes. please and thank you. the bench and sink are not too shabby either.

bathroom4

3 // a room with a view that is beyond compare. echoed by the mirror on the wall. marble. drop dead gorgeous.

bathroom3

4 // Speaking of marble. There is marble on. EV.ER.Y.THING in this bathroom. Even the moulding. And the shelves. Just not those amazing fluffy white towels.

bathroom5

5  // slate tiling even up the walls. A bath encapsulated, snug and cozy. the STUNNING view is where its at.

bathroom2

and since when do I EVER stop at 5 in these Five Faves posts? One more for good measure:

 6 // I am a sucker for a towel warmer and true European windows with shutters. Drapes in the bathroom!

bathroom6

I’ve got plenty more inspiration over on my Pinterest boards {PS THANK YOU for getting me to 37k followers over there, you design crazed lovelies!!!}. You may especially love my Inspiration Bathrooms board if you are loving what’s going on here.

What do you love from these Five Faves??

Share in the comments below! I can’t wait to hear.
