The best decorating book I have read… in a long time
Thursday, October 15, 2015 by {darlene}

Friends, this is a super quick post. More like a service announcement for people who dream about decorating when they should be doing other things…

You must stop what you are doing and ORDER THIS BOOK.

{click on the book image or click here to purchase}

Lauren Liess's Habitat book - a MUST HAVE decorating book (review via @fieldstonehill)

It is practical. It is edited to perfection. It tells you exactly what you need to get the most luxurious and beautiful home in a realistic, down-to-earth way.

I think I am going to read a snippet from it every day. For real.

Because it is that good.

And that meaty. With USEABLE information that you will be so glad you have at your fingertips.

You may know that I adore Lauren Liess for her decorating style, but she also has a natural instructional manner about her that is truly helpful to others. If you don’t follow along with her blog, you must do so!

One of my favorite things about this amazing guide is how it is broken down. The first section of the book covers the fundamentals of design. The second section covers the intangibles – what makes for a really GOOD design… and I am LOVING this section of the book for how it puts vocabulary to the unexplainable. The final section breaks down decorating by room.

But my favorite page might just be page 266. When you get the book and read it, {and you know me and how I feel about these things}, you will know why I adore Lauren, and why I will sing her praises from the rooftops. Because, she gets it.

Okay.

Now run, click, and be glad you did!!!

Mad for Madrid

Happy {ditto} Monday! Ditto posts: learn how to ditto a designer room

 Today’s ditto post features a stunning living room from Spanish designer, Luis Puerto. His designs are gorgeous, and outside of the box from what we tend to see Stateside. I love to head to different continents (in my mind, most of the time!) to be inspired by global influences. So many design details caught my eye, so read on to find out what I would ditto.

This is not the first time I have been in love with a space from Madrid.  That awesome space was also from Nuevo Estilo. Maybe I should just go ahead and subscribe… I certainly seem to be Mad for Madrid!

As you look at this space, you might think “This is way to _____ for me.” I encourage you not to dismiss a space when it does not seem accessible to you. Instead, pull apart the details. Find out what makes it so fabulous. And then bring your favorite ditto-worthy elements into your own home. In other words, Ditto It!!!!

WHAT I LOVE {What I would ditto!}:

1. The chevron flooring! I am actually trying to ditto this in my upcoming kitchen/dining renovation. We are on a mad hunt for an affordable parquet of engineered flooring, in order to save on cost.

2. That sofa, of course! Velvet! That grey-gold fabric is just dreamy!

3. Sculptural art! Why go little when you can go big and have an impact? This would be a great design trick to ditto, and there are plenty of affordable ways to bring large-scale sculpture into your space (my favorite way is repurposing large, vintage items found at flea markets or antique shops)

4. Mirrors, mirrors, everywhere. In circular shapes, rectangular and square. Get that light bouncing around the room. The floor to ceiling mirrors would be tricky to ditto, but definitely not impossible. I especially love the circular mirror between the huge, gorgeous, rectangular windows.

5. Tables and chairs everywhere. This room invites you to sit, and to stay. Ditto.

6. Those windows. Oh so very European! I love how, in Europe, they have tall and slender windows that go all the way to the floor. Sometimes, these windows function as doors as well – even though they have a much slimmer profile than our doors.

7. Interior shutters. This would be a pricey ditto, but what an impact these folding interior shutters would be!

8. Tufting! I am still in love with tufted velvet sofas, and my love is not waning.

DO YOU LOVE IT??

WHAT DO YOU LOVE?

WHAT DESIGN ELEMENTS WOULD YOU DITTO IN YOUR OWN HOME?

DO TELL!!!!!! {see you in the comments below}
