Welcome to the August {ditto} DIY challenge! {Last chance to link up this summer!}

I hope you loved last month’s challenge! There were some beautiful projects that I hope you had a chance to hop around and check out. SUCH creative  ways to incorporate gorgeous fabric art into your home!

Today kicks off the grand link-up for August {found at the end of this post}. It will also be our last link-up for a bit. Do you have your trash-into-treasure pretty trash can ready?

For those of you who are just encountering {ditto} DIY for the first time, here is what it is all about:

Once a month all summer long, ten very different bloggers have been hosting this challenge to recreate in our own homes a project or design element inspired by a haute couture design. The idea is to inspire everyone to incorporate fine design elements into your own home in a way that fits your own style.

We have been so thrilled to have so many of you join our challenge each month! Between the craziness of Fall and the Holidays, and not one, but TWO babies on their way for our little blogger posse {my little girl is soon to arrive. 4 more weeks!!, and Lauren is having a baby TODAY!}, we decided {ditto} DIY would be a perfect tradition for us to resurrect each summer. And with the way time flies, we are going to be back there before you know it!

Add a classy pattern to create a pretty trash can, turning a necessary room element into a lovely design detail.

But first! Now that you have created a something out of nothing {!!} and made the mundane more lovely, here are some designer tips for paying attention to the little details that make a room extraordinary!

 it’s all about the details &

adding bold pattern in everyday objects:

 1. On the subject of a pretty trash can: one great option is to hide your trash can, of course. But, have you considered your trash can another opportunity to add color or texture to your space? If you are wanting to add another design element to the room, this simple everyday object can truly be elevated. Of course, adding fun and bold and classic pattern is a great way to accomplish that.

2. Other pretty ideas: Try wrapping your trash can in twine for a textural look. Try using a flowerpot or a wicker basket for a trash can. Add some shine with stainless. Add some color with paint. And, like the images in our main inspiration {ditto} DIY pic, definitely consider adding geometric pattern.

3. The great thing about bold patterns is that they can take the mundane and add vibrancy to an object, and then to a room. Trying adding a geometric pattern to a bowl or a tray, and then adding that to a simple table-scape to see how quickly things liven up. Adding geometric, bold pattern pillows to a neutral space is a quick way to have some fun in a classic or neutral room. Tossing patterned napkins on your table adds instant energy.

4. A picture says a thousand words. Especially when it comes to convincing you that a trash can really does matter! Enjoy the collection of images below {find all of the sources via Inspiration Offices and Workrooms}, and be inspired to make the extra effort to add a pretty trash can:
