ditto :: shaking things up {and} COLOR!
Monday, February 27, 2012 by {darlene}

After a year plus of sharing Ditto‘s every Monday morning, I wanted to add something fun and personal to our series!

This week, and whenever I can, I am going to start featuring some of my favorite blogging designers, and their spaces in my Ditto Posts. Doesn’t that sound fun?? Be inspired by gorgeous design AND meet new, fabulous bloggers.

This is not the first time that I have done this {remember this ditto, or this ditto?}.  But now I am going to try to feature talented designers, blog-wide, on a more regular basis. Such a fun way for us to get to peek around the web, and dissect the great design that is being shared by bloggers.

As always, I love hearing from my peeps about what you love, or what you would love to see ditto-ed. So share your thoughts with me!

Today’s ditto is designed by Jill Sorensen of Marmalade Interiors, who also writes the fun and energizing blog Live Like You, and offers amazing decorating goodies at her interiors shop. If you ever need more inspiration to infuse some color and fun into your home, Jill is just the {gorgeous, talented} designer to do that! You can catch a glimpse of her true love for color in this bedroom that is so ditto-worthy:

DITTO :: {WHAT I WOULD STEAL FROM THIS SPACE}:

1.  BERRY PINK AS A PUNCH COLOR.

I couldn’t possibly be more in love with the antique arm chairs that have been reupholstered in raspberry pink. They are stunning. And even better in a pair. You can also find splashes of berry pink in the bedding and in the floral arrangement on the antique dresser. Berry Pink makes such a fun punch color in this space. {to see another example of berry pink as a punch color, you can hop over to this bedroom that I designed for a client.}

2.  INFUSING ANTIQUE AND MODERN.

The concept of contrast is one that every artist should have in their tool belt. And in interiors it is no different. A wonderful way to add contrast and interest to a space is by blending different eras of furnishings. The old with the new. It keeps a space from looking too heavy and redundant {all antiques}, or assembled-fresh-out-of-a-catalog {all modern}. The trick of mixing antique and modern pieces is definitely ditto-worthy.

3.  DETAILED & DELICATE GOLD ACCENT PIECES.

I love the delicate and rococo touch that is added to this space by the mirror above the dresser and the gilded chandelier. These two pieces infuse femininity and softness into a space filled with boldness. Again, a great contrast-concept to ditto.

4.  CHOCOLATE BROWN AS A “GROUNDING” COLOR.

Chocolate brown appears in this space in the amount I would use a punch color. But, because it functions like a neutral amidst all these bolds and brights, I’d think of it more as a “grounding” color. I love how the chocolate brown is interspersed throughout, and connects all of the elements of color in the room. The rug, the blanket, the chair pillows, the dressers, and even the curtain rods provide this grounding effect. A great concept to ditto in a color-filled space.

5.  DRAMATIC {YET FUN} SILK DRAPES .

Don’t you love the yellow and white striped silk drapes that boldly drape this space!? Gutsy? Yes. Fun? Yes. Contrast-y? Yes. My, my. It can almost be said that those drapes make the room. LOVE how they work in this space.

6.  GUTSY WALLS.

Thinking about going turquoise? Be warned: It may inspire you to get fun and gutsy with the rest of your space!

7.  MANY BOLD COLORS, SPREAD THROUGHOUT.

Golden yellows. Deep Chocolates. Berry Pinks. Ocean Turquoises. Crisp Whites. Gilded Accents. It takes guts to incorporate so many bold colors together, but with repetition, and decorating elements tying it all together, there is a seamless flow. Ditto.

~~~
SO much goodness. Love anything I did not mention? or…
WHAT WOULD YOU DITTO {STEAL} FROM THIS SPACE, 1-7? SOMETHING ELSE?
I LOVE HEARING YOUR THOUGHTS!
