ditto :: the limoncello living room
Monday, April 23, 2012 by {darlene}

Today’s Ditto is from Coastal Living. What I love most about this room is the color scheme that feels so fresh and full of light. It seems like the perfect place for a family to get recharged and refreshed, and would be wonderful in a lake home. {I have a thing for lake homes… have I mentioned?}

As always, I look forward to hearing from you and finding out what you would ditto, too.

DITTO :: {WHAT I WOULD STEAL FROM THIS SPACE}:

1.   LEMON LIME.

I love this color combination. It instantly draws nature into the room. In this room, the range of colors takes full advantage of the analogous spectrum from pale yellows to rich greens. And as an added bonus, I think a bottle of Limoncello would look fantastic in this room.

2.   FABRIC COVERED OTTOMAN.

Nothing invites you to put your feet up more than a well-planned fabric ottoman. This multi-colored fabric is not too fussy, which is even better, and even more inviting. Ditto.

3.   A TEXTURAL CHAIR.

Do you see that fantastic, woven chair off to the left? Oh, I really do love it. It adds texture to the room… a touch of nature… but I also think it adds sculptural interest. Chairs like this function as art among the other upholstered pieces.

4.   BOOKS GALORE.

Bookshelves filled with, guess what? Books! And a coffee table with favorite books above and below. I love how this room invites you to put up your feet and grab a book, for casual browsing or serious studying.

5.   DRAPES THAT MATCH THE WALLS.

Ceiling to floor drapes are a love of mine. And I also love when the drapes are selected to match the walls identically, or a shade or two deeper. It allows the textural impact of grand drapes to really stand out. This is one of my favorite design tricks to ditto.

6.   MAGNOLIA LEAVES.

One of my favorite natural elements to decorate with, grand and shiny magnolia leaves are sculpturally beautiful. Ditto.

7.   GRAND PILLOWS ON A SMALL SOFA.

Vamp up a small sofa by adding grand and bold pillows at either end. The effect is both fun and classy.

8.   TEXTURAL INTEREST.

In a room filled with classic furnishings, a simple color scheme, and large amounts of upholstery, the space can often need added textural interest. In this space, that is accomplished in several ways: via the natural woven rug, the textural light fixture, the open-weave chair, the cane-bottom coffee table, the tone-on-tone drapes, the magnolia leaves, and the layers of books.

* * * * * * *

SO much goodness.

Love anything I did not mention? or…

WHAT WOULD YOU DITTO {STEAL} FROM THIS SPACE, 1-8? SOMETHING ELSE?

I LOVE HEARING YOUR THOUGHTS!

  • My eye went right to the books on the shelves! I would love built-ins one day (maybe this next house?!), and I seem to see mostly photos of smartly styled ones- we love books and love to read them over and over so I would want to use them for books (but also look lovely!). 🙂 Anyway, I enjoyed seeing books on the shelves and would ditto that!

  • I really like the ottoman – I like where you can place thing under it a that since it is upholstered you would use it for seating when there was company.

  • I would ditto the ottoman–so functional and love the turned legs. Tone on tone drapes, yes. The overhead light fixture mirrors the checkered accessory on the ottoman — a surprise element, esp the accessory, that makes the room interesting.

  • I LOVE this space!

    1. LEMON LIME.
    2. FABRIC COVERED OTTOMAN. this is to DIE for!
    5. DRAPES THAT MATCH THE WALLS. what a concept!
    8. TEXTURAL INTEREST. i’ve always gone for texture. maybe not the woven chair, because it doesn’t look comfortable. however, it DOES look good in the room. 🙂

    The lime, floral chair is fabulous!

    Thank you for sharing!

  • Two things I learned from this ditto: You CAN use oversized pillows on a small sofa and magnolia branches are not just for Christmas anymore. I’m off to do this right now and also try and figure out why I always thought those things in the first place. Thanks Darlene!

  • The rope chair!

  • Darlene….I am excited to meet you in Atlanta…..I also love with this coffee table and might have to search for it to use in a project!

  • This room is very comfortable and inviting. Yet, it is also very stylish–I would ditto the painted white wood and interesting legs on ottoman, woven sisal carpet, pops of green and mix of textures.
