eDesign :: room by room series
Friday, June 1, 2012 by {darlene}

I want to tell all of you about  a fun eDecorating series that is being hosted over at my friend Cindy’s A.MAZ.ING blog, Skip to my Lou.

This series features Cindy’s Home and ‘Yours Truly’ as her eDesigner!

First, let me introduce you to Cindy. Darling, isn’t she?:

ah. Just WAIT until you check out her blog.

Large volumes of ‘with-it’ women know about Cindy’s blog, Skip to My Lou, and all of the amazing craft inspiration it offers.

Not that I am blatantly admitting to such procrastination, but I may or may not have been scouring her site on Wednesday, looking for adorable teacher appreciation gift ideas. My 4 year old’s last day of preschool was – ahem – Thursday…. Thank goodness for crafty geniuses like Cindy.

look what I made from her great stash of ideas {there is a cute calculator in the bag}:

teacher appreciation homemade gift

Another favorite of mine on Skip to My Lou is Cindy’s Homemade Gift Guide. I LOVE personal gifts that go “outside-of-the-box” and are creative … and – let’s get real here, people …. easy! Yep. Simple. Creative. and Easy.

So, now that you know where to find all of your last minute gifting ideas, let’s get back to our fun series at hand, shall we?

Cindy and I are working on her family room, and…

I have some BEFORE pictures!

I think Cindy is doubly awesome for letting me post pics she took last minute, with her phone, in bad lighting, with her sofa missing, and her furniture displaced. But, here we go:

I mean, the girl does not even have a sofa in her room right now {it is at the upholsterer! yay!}, poor soul!!!! Brave Brave Brave to let me post away!

I don’t think I will change a thing about this wall. Don’t you love Cindy’s dish wall?

So, there you have it! The Befores.

Now, Cindy has already shared her first post in our Room to Room series. If you have ever wondered what the eDesign process is like, {or if you just love to see Before and After pics. Who doesn’t?}, then you should definitely follow along!

Hop here to follow Cindy on Facebook, like 39,000 other smart folks!!!!!

And, humble ol’ me would love for you to follow me on FB too, for regular design inspiration and post updates! Thanks darlings!

Let the eDecorating begin!

What are YOU eager to know about the eDesign Process??

ditto :: a children’s room that delights
Tuesday, May 29, 2012 by {darlene}

Happy {ditto} Monday  Tuesday!

I hope everyone of you had an amazing Memorial Day, full of fun, food, summer-kick-off-joy and a whole-lotta thankfulness. We couldn’t head down the river due to rough water levels, but we spent the day full of summer-licious delights. Including a dinner of s’mores and fire-roasted hot-dogs.

Today’s ditto {does it feel weird to do a ditto on Tuesday?} features a children’s room that has really made its way around the web. It is a great space. Not just for a kid’s room, but for any room. And it is totally ditto-worthy.

So let’s break it down and find out what makes it so fabulous! {can’t wait to hear what you would ditto!}

{Amie Corley Interiors}

DITTO :: {WHAT I WOULD STEAL FROM THIS SPACE}:

1.   KILLER ORANGE DRAPES.

I am pretty much in love with floor to ceiling drapes. AND, I am pretty much in LOVE with orange. So, for me, that makes these show-stopping drapes TOTALLY ditto-worthy!

2.   BLUE AND ORANGE. PERFECT CONTRAST.

Contrast is one of my probably my most favorite design technique. A room comes alive when you use contrast. This space uses several contrasting elements, but I want to chit-chat about the glorious color combo of blue and orange {or periwinkle and melon, as in this space}. I did a post on it. Oh, and there was also this post. And, yep, I am probably going to have to do another post on those two gorgeous colors, and how they dance so happily. But for now, take another look at this amazing child’s room, and witness it for yourself. The thing is, orange and blue are opposite on the color wheel. And it is precisely this contrast that makes them look so glorious together. Ditto.

3.   COLOR BALANCES WITH STRONG BLOCKS OF WHITE.

This room is full of fun and glorious and gutsy color. What makes it feel so calm, even so? The steady pops of solid white throughout the space. I talked about strong blocks of white in this post which features a space by one of my favorite designers. Blocks of white do wonders for adding balance and easing the boldness of the space.

4.   FAIR TRADE.

I am not sure where designer Amie Corley scored those hamper sized baskets exactly, but I do know where you can get your own, and support struggling workers at the same time. Check out this Fair Trade site, and this one too.

5.   TRADE OUT YOUR KNOBS.

The adorable dresser? Hmm. I think I recognize it. And despite the high price tag, Ms. Corley was not afraid to make this piece even better. With custom blue glass knobs. How delightful and fun is that? Ditto.

6.   A RADIATOR TURNED BEAUTIFUL.

Why just have a radiator? Add a grated-cover for beauty, plus the added practicality of a flat surface on top. This is an excellent way to increase the space value of space-hogging radiators {although, I am NOT knocking their heat. I love radiator heat! When it is not 90 degrees outside.}.

7.   BOLD WITH PATTERN.

Ditto-Worthy adventure: mixing up bold and beautiful patterns! A gentle, repetitive floral on the wall. A strong graphic on the rug. A fun zebra on the … well, zebra. All of these patterns are mixed with care and they add vibrancy to the space.

* * * * * * *

SO much goodness.

Love anything I did not mention? or…

WHAT WOULD YOU DITTO {STEAL} FROM THIS SPACE, 1-7? SOMETHING ELSE?

I LOVE HEARING YOUR THOUGHTS!

ditto-worthy deed :: remember why you are free.
Monday, May 28, 2012 by {darlene}

Happy Memorial Day

A ditto-worthy deed: remembering.

{via Joe Gromelski, Stars and Stripes}

I was so moved by the photos in this post, which reminded me of those who are left behind. I encourage you to take a moment to click over to view this photography tribute, and soak it in on this Memorial Day:

* * * * * *

Today, our Memorial Day plans include fun family activities. If the weather cooperates, we hope to be floating down a lazy river in inner tubes.  Regardless of the weather, we will also be writing a letter to Kristy, a friend who is bravely serving in Afghanistan. We are praying for you every day, Kristy.
