design board :: Fieldstone Hill’s Living Room
Thursday, March 1, 2012 by {darlene}

Remember when I shared one of my big goals for my home in 2012:

Well, turns out, if you are sick on the couch for 6 straight days, you can create lots of fun Vision Design Boards.  And this morning, I finished the Vision for our beloved Family/Living Room.

The board does not cover all of the changes I plan to bring to this space, but it does show the overall feel… and I am getting quite excited!

Do you want to see???

Fieldstone Hill Living Room Design Board:

Goodness!! Isn’t she perty??

In fact, hubs and I already went out to our local Benjamin Moore to pick up two colors from their new Color Stories line: “Deep Secret” for the walls, and “Museum Piece” for the coffee table re-vamp.

This room is going to require several DIY’s, so I will keep you posted along the way. I know. You are stunned.

I am particularly excited about the wall color, and how it contrasts the silk gold curtains. The room gets plenty of light, and while all of the walls in our living room will be getting the “Deep Secret” color, only one wall is a large stretch of plaster. The rest of the room has built-ins or a stone wall, leaving very little wall that we are actually going to paint.

So… four years after it was built… we are finally going to paint our favorite room in the house! We have been living with bare plaster all this time. I am  so excited for the change!

What do you think, my darlings??

design in progress :: the boys’ room sneak peek
Tuesday, February 28, 2012 by {darlene}

I am finally making some progress on the boys’ room! Some of you may remember that I vowed to finish the boys room in 2011. Well, that did not happen – in an old home, there are always expensive and unexpected maintenance problems that occur, and derail you from other projects. {fellow old-home-lovers beware!}

But finally, I am one rug, two pillows and two wicker trunks away from finishing our boys’ room… and I love how it is coming together!

Things have changed since my original design, mostly due to great finds that still fit closely within my original vision. That is the beauty of a Vision Design Board – they are both flexible and concrete enough to keep you on track.

As the room evolved, I created a new Vision Design Board for myself. I thought you might have fun seeing the two different Design Boards:

First Vision Design Board:

Revised Vision Design Board:

So today, for fun, I want to share a teensy weensy sneak peek of the gorgeous art wall that sits between the two twin beds.

My friend Jennifer, of the Finest Kind Shop, made the beautiful signs that you see below {click here to enter and win two of your own!}

Every night, before bed, I sing to the boys. And each one of them has their own special “mommy and me” song. So, I worked with Jennifer to create six boards that captured snippets of their special songs.

My firstborn’s song is “Evermore I will Love You,” so we put that one on his side of the bed.  And my Nugget’s song is “You are my Sunshine,” and that sits near his bed. Many nights, the whole family sings “Jesus Loves Me,” together. These memories are priceless to me, so I cannot begin to tell you how much we all love these gorgeous signs. The boys probably love them the most!

This room has lots of other fun touches, so I can’t wait to share the reveal! Be sure you are a subscriber, so you don’t miss it! {I don’t even know when it will be finished! ha!}

Subscribe by email:

Don’t you just love those signs??? I hope you can win two gorgeous signs of your own, and fill them up with words that are special to you and your family.  There are just two days left, today and tomorrow, so enter here to win!

ditto :: shaking things up {and} COLOR!
Monday, February 27, 2012 by {darlene}

After a year plus of sharing Ditto‘s every Monday morning, I wanted to add something fun and personal to our series!

This week, and whenever I can, I am going to start featuring some of my favorite blogging designers, and their spaces in my Ditto Posts. Doesn’t that sound fun?? Be inspired by gorgeous design AND meet new, fabulous bloggers.

This is not the first time that I have done this {remember this ditto, or this ditto?}.  But now I am going to try to feature talented designers, blog-wide, on a more regular basis. Such a fun way for us to get to peek around the web, and dissect the great design that is being shared by bloggers.

As always, I love hearing from my peeps about what you love, or what you would love to see ditto-ed. So share your thoughts with me!

Today’s ditto is designed by Jill Sorensen of Marmalade Interiors, who also writes the fun and energizing blog Live Like You, and offers amazing decorating goodies at her interiors shop. If you ever need more inspiration to infuse some color and fun into your home, Jill is just the {gorgeous, talented} designer to do that! You can catch a glimpse of her true love for color in this bedroom that is so ditto-worthy:

DITTO :: {WHAT I WOULD STEAL FROM THIS SPACE}:

1.  BERRY PINK AS A PUNCH COLOR.

I couldn’t possibly be more in love with the antique arm chairs that have been reupholstered in raspberry pink. They are stunning. And even better in a pair. You can also find splashes of berry pink in the bedding and in the floral arrangement on the antique dresser. Berry Pink makes such a fun punch color in this space. {to see another example of berry pink as a punch color, you can hop over to this bedroom that I designed for a client.}

2.  INFUSING ANTIQUE AND MODERN.

The concept of contrast is one that every artist should have in their tool belt. And in interiors it is no different. A wonderful way to add contrast and interest to a space is by blending different eras of furnishings. The old with the new. It keeps a space from looking too heavy and redundant {all antiques}, or assembled-fresh-out-of-a-catalog {all modern}. The trick of mixing antique and modern pieces is definitely ditto-worthy.

3.  DETAILED & DELICATE GOLD ACCENT PIECES.

I love the delicate and rococo touch that is added to this space by the mirror above the dresser and the gilded chandelier. These two pieces infuse femininity and softness into a space filled with boldness. Again, a great contrast-concept to ditto.

4.  CHOCOLATE BROWN AS A “GROUNDING” COLOR.

Chocolate brown appears in this space in the amount I would use a punch color. But, because it functions like a neutral amidst all these bolds and brights, I’d think of it more as a “grounding” color. I love how the chocolate brown is interspersed throughout, and connects all of the elements of color in the room. The rug, the blanket, the chair pillows, the dressers, and even the curtain rods provide this grounding effect. A great concept to ditto in a color-filled space.

5.  DRAMATIC {YET FUN} SILK DRAPES .

Don’t you love the yellow and white striped silk drapes that boldly drape this space!? Gutsy? Yes. Fun? Yes. Contrast-y? Yes. My, my. It can almost be said that those drapes make the room. LOVE how they work in this space.

6.  GUTSY WALLS.

Thinking about going turquoise? Be warned: It may inspire you to get fun and gutsy with the rest of your space!

7.  MANY BOLD COLORS, SPREAD THROUGHOUT.

Golden yellows. Deep Chocolates. Berry Pinks. Ocean Turquoises. Crisp Whites. Gilded Accents. It takes guts to incorporate so many bold colors together, but with repetition, and decorating elements tying it all together, there is a seamless flow. Ditto.

~~~
SO much goodness. Love anything I did not mention? or…
WHAT WOULD YOU DITTO {STEAL} FROM THIS SPACE, 1-7? SOMETHING ELSE?
I LOVE HEARING YOUR THOUGHTS!
