Today, I will be spending the day with all of my favorite Valentines. It is so much fun to be the only girl around these parts!!
I thought it would be perfect, on this day of love, to share my latest design with you: a new romantic Master bedroom.
My design challenge was to revamp a room that had only a few basic elements that my clients wanted to keep: the carpeting, a sage green paint color, and a lovely pin-tuck purple duvet set. My clients wanted to keep these elements in the room, but while one of them really loved the purple and green combo, the other one liked it, but wanted to “dress it up,” and introduce some other colors as well. This called for a perfectly romantic compromise of purple, green… and black and gold!
So, starting with only green paint and a purple duvet, and no idea what direction to take their space,
here is what my clients have now for their Love-ly new Master Suite Design Vision:
Some of my favorite touches in this space are:
1. The color combination of warm and cool greens, golds, creams and blacks; with a splash of purple as a rich contrast.
2. The fun paint job and knob change on the standard Ikea Hermes dressers.
3. The buffalo check curtains.
4. The linen bedskirt, dressed up with black grosgrain ribbon… which matches the window cornice.
5. Having a sofa in the Master Bedroom; I love this concept!
6. The stunning chandelier.
7. The botanical prints.
8. All of the black and white geometrics.
As always, I would love to hear your thoughts on my latest design.
And if you are interested in design services, it would be my joy to help you create a space that you love. You may have a bit of a wait…. but you know what they say about “good things” and “wait”-ing!

Today’s ditto is a welcoming family room space that blends restraint, symmetry, and soothing colors with the fun and function that makes a family room livable for, well….. family!
This weekend, we just had a plush “angry bird” thrown across our front hall, that plummeted into our champagne glass collection. I recognize that this type of displaying is not appropriate for every season in our lives {understatement!}. But… if you are not in this season, maybe it is time to pull out all of those precious, beautiful collections you have hid away for “the future.” The stunning effect of pieces, displayed ‘en masse,‘ can really become pure art in a room!
2. THE TV ABOVE THE FIREPLACE.
This may not be ideal for every room in your home, but in the family room, it can be so practical and beautiful to place a flat-screen TV above the hearth. It can be hidden with doors, or recessed, or hung right above the mantle… but when family is together, it is so nice to snuggle up with some popcorn to enjoy the view of your favorite movie AND your fire.
3. A FARM TABLE IN THE FAMILY ROOM.
And nothing brings family together like a farm table farm table full of food! Let’s all sit together and chat, shall we? Time for family game night.
4. CREAM, CREAM, EVERYWHERE.
I love the dreamy effect of cream walls, built-ins, ceilings, hydrangeas, and comfortable furnishings. It has all the purity of white, but is just a little bit warmer; wrapping the room in coziness.
5. PLENTY OF PLUSH SEATING.
Perfect for relaxing and encouraging the entire family to put up their feet. And if you have a family of boys, you are going to need snuggly seating if you want them to stay a while!
6. MUTED TONES {BLUES AND ORANGES}.
Aren’t the muted colors in this space amazing? I love how the pale grayish-blues works with the muted pumpkin tones. Definitely a color combination worthy of ditto-ing! Duly noted.
7. A BASKET OF HYDRANGEAS IN MONOTONE.
The hyndrangeas and the basket match. I just love how peaceful that looks! Ditto.
8. SYMMETRY AND CAREFUL EDITING.
Once again, Symmetry and editing reign supreme! These design elements keep this full room looking peaceful, orderly and welcoming. When life is busy, and hectic, and colorful… it can be so soothing to have a cozy, calm place that welcomes rest for the mind and unity for the family.
SO much goodness. Love anything I did not mention? or…
WHAT WOULD YOUDITTO {STEAL} FROM THIS SPACE, 1-8? SOMETHING ELSE?
I LOVE HEARING YOUR THOUGHTS!

Have you lost any of your New Year’s Organizing steam??
Remember this post, where I boldly and “Captain-Obviously” declared:
BEAUTIFUL SPACES ARE NOT FILLED WITH JUNK. {<- tweet this}
Maybe I can kick you back into gear today by sharing, what I believe to be,
Protect your “Prime Storage Real Estate”!
This one organizing concept can transform the way your home functions, and it will not cost you a dime:
What exactly is “Prime Real Estate” in reference to Storage and Home organization??
It refers to any storage areas in your home that are:
1. Closed Storage {something with a door, where you can hide the uglies!}
2. Easily Accessibly
3. In very regularly, daily trafficked areas.
Start right away by thinking,
What is MY Prime Real Estate in my home??
*For example, your main bathroom cabinet is likely Prime Storage Real-Estate, but your basement is likely not.
*You may have a hall closet that you pass by often: Prime Real Estate, and another hall closet that barely gets seen: not Prime Real Estate!
*Most of your kitchen is likely Prime Storage Real Estate.
So, the first step in rethinking your home organization:
Step One:
Identify the Prime Storage Real Estate in YOUR home.
Once you have identified which cabinets, closets, and cupboards fit the description, the time has come to be ruthless.
Step Two:
Remove anything from Prime Storage Real Estate that does not get regular use.
What constitutes “regular use?”
Examples:
I consider our winter hats and gloves worthy of prime real estate. I have a designated spot for them, and since we regularly use them, for 1/3 of the year, for me they “qualify.” Now, our ski gear, which only gets used 2x/year sits in a bin in our basement.
I use my immersion blender maybe 1x/month, but it is still regular. My platter that I serve our Thanksgiving Bird on once a year does not qualify, so out of Prime Real Estate it goes.
Beneath the bathroom sink, TP qualifies, hairdryer qualifies, but that set of rollers I barely use {hmm. anyone need some self stick rollers?} needs to leave the Prime Real Estate area.
Step Three:
Move items that DO get regular use into Prime Real Estate, if they are not already there.

This practical way of rethinking your storage will help you to rule your stuff, and not vice versa. {<-tweet this}

Now, woa, you motivated people! This concept is the perfect place to start, but remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day. Keep this concept tucked in your mind as you move from cabinet to closet to cabinet within your home. {If you do one each week, that’s 52 cabinets.}
You are really going to appreciate having your most used and most loved things in accessible locations… without having to dig through 2 antique casserole dishes and a pile of oven mitts to get there.
{I may or may not be preaching directly to myself in that last sentence….}
