Inspiration :: a room I love
Wednesday, June 1, 2011 by {darlene}

It’s Wednesday, so it must be “A room I love” time….just a simple hello, from me to you, featuring a Room that I Love.

Finding rooms that you love is a very important step in defining your own personal style, so I hope that you find this feature to be both inspiring and helpful in aiding you to identify the things you truly love. Start collecting a file folder of the Rooms that YOU Love!

a gorgeous, simple outdoor room, surrounded by nothing but green and wide-open beauty. Made cozy with encircling bushes and flowers. Made a destination with four adirondack chairs promising good conversation.

Do you love this room?

But, before you go! I would love to hear your thoughts on this fun, vibrant, Texas-glam space!

ditto :: red, white and blue beauty
Monday, May 30, 2011 by {darlene}

I would much rather be looking you in the eyes and shaking your hand,
but if you have served, or are serving our country… may I humbly say, “Thank you.”

Things like honor and sacrifice and dedication are worthy of many dittos.
Happy Memorial Day, and God bless you and your families for your service.

Our homes are safe and happy and peaceful.
because of you.

Now. I think some Red, White and Blue is in high order, don’t you?
a ditto-worthy patriotic space:

{house beautiful}

ditto :: what I would steal from this space:

  1. americana antlers. There is nothing more American than red, white, blue and snag-your-own-food-from-the-wild,-then-display-above-mantle. And a strong focal piece above the mantle reminds us that the hearth was and is the center of the American home.
  2. warm and cool. The warmth of a fireplace and natural stones fit perfectly with the cool, crisp and fresh red, white and blue. This is how to “do summer” next to your fireplace. S’mores anyone?
  3. having a sitting area right by the hearth. The coziest place in the house: these chairs are parked in the perfect spot. Even with all this warm weather, this cozy spot still manages to entice me.
  4. cornflower blue barn-siding walls. A great choice of blue. One of my favorite of the 64 crayons.
  5. pure white accents offering a silhouette against dark walls. White objects have more power and drama when placed against a dark background. And I love me some drama.
  6. a graphic, bright rug {or is that painted on the floor?}. This pattern is beautiful. And I love the gutsy element of throwing in a strong dose of red on the floor.
  7. an ottoman and tray that nestle between the sitting area.  With the tray, we have a fantastic place to set our mug, our flowers and our novel. Take off the tray, and the ottoman also serves as a great place to warm your toes by the fire. I adore dual-purpose furnishings. Makes so much sense.
  8. navy seersucker classic fabric, mixed with playful, modern geometrics. Fun.
  9. simple, nearly bare windows, painted to match the wall color. This adds a touch of minimalism to a space filled with texture and character {the barn siding, the stones, the wood floor}.
What do you love about this space? What would you ditto??

Friday, May 27, 2011 by {darlene}

Hi everyone! Happy Friday.

whew! what a week it has been.
First of all, did you guys {I really wanted to say “y’all” there} see the wonderful words that my friend and client Edie wrote about me? Truly, she is a sweet heart. And SO much fun. Loves you, edie!!!!!

Secondly, I have had to close my wait-list for an eensie-weensie time. My current wait is 45 weeks {tops}, and I did not feel right about accepting new clients for the moment. I am aiming for just a month’s break. SO, if you were just about to snatch up a design, please be patient with me. It won’t be long! I will be working my little tail off. And click here to add your name to email updates!
I am so excited to work with my upcoming clients and give them the Design of their dreams!

Speaking of Design Boards! I am working on an AMAZING living room design that I cannot wait to share with you, so stay tuned….

And now, for a pretty little picture:

This photo, from Elle Decor, is actually scanned in from my hard-paper file folder {hence the title of this post}. I wanted to make an effort to digitize some of my favorite paper inspiration… and I knew that meant I could share them with you! Yipeeee.

This picture is choc full of wonderful inspiration. Here is a quick list of my favorite things about this space, and why I saved it for my files:

My favorite things:
1. are you kidding me? That floor!! Gutsy pays off.
2. A center table in a foyer.
3. Orange velvet is always the right choice.
4. Those Gorgeous sconces all around the room
5. The chinoiserie chairs of beauty.
6. The grass cloth.

Soooo. What do you think of this amazing space?
Have a great weekend, and be sure to go say “Hi” to Edie!
See you on ditto Monday. HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND!!!
