ditto :: a lively and lovely office
Monday, March 28, 2011 by {darlene}

You may remember this amazing space from my last post. It is a stunning office designed by Amanda Nisbet.
So ditto-worthy!

ditto :: {what I would steal from this space}:

  1. coral and navy and lime. simply a fantastic combination! This combo takes guts, but the colors are used judiciously, and balanced with large, neutral pieces.
  2. I am not much for the typical beige sofa. But I adore how beige-on-beige is used in this space, and made beautiful and lively with the use of varying textures. The amazing rug with a basket-weave texture plays against the simple and soft ultra-suede of the sofa. And this texture-play is made even more amazing by that furry, fuzzy, fluffy bean-bag wonderful-ness.
  3. A fantastic fabric has a strong presence as window panels, adding instant color and lighthearted liveliness to the room. See the bolster pillow on the sofa that is fashioned from the same fabric? A perfect tie-in… not to mention a great way to make a beige sofa/daybed more exciting. Even better if you adore coral.
  4. furry! That furry fru- fru floor cushion and the red sofa pillow tell us all not to take this office too seriously. Who says work can’t be fun??
  5. Old school telephones are the best.
  6. That chair is just amazing. Lime green? With black piping? and a mini-bolster at the head? with tufting? The chair has a lot of guts, but it makes the room.
  7. Although it is a bit hard to see here, I simply adore the floor lamp in the right hand foreground. The red, geometric base is makes this lamp a stunner, and ties in to the splash of red on the sofa. Punch color, anyone?
  8. A pendant lamp in the office. I love that particular pendant lamp… but I also love the notion of using a slim and airy pendant lamp hanging in the corner of an office.
  9. Everyone needs an electric green Long Island flanking their office walls, no? A fantastic piece of art. I wonder if Amanda did it herself…
This room is a beautiful and energetic space that surely offers the creative worker-bee plenty of inspiration. I am inspired already!
What do you most love about this office?

colors :: navy and coral
Friday, March 25, 2011 by {darlene}

My grandmother Nellie was a classy lady… or a “fancy” lady as my great-grandma Anna used to say.

Throughout my life, I have found it fascinating that I have always tended to love similar things that grandma Nellie loved… even the same color combinations.

While in her bedroom, together shuffling through the goodies in her closet, I remember grandma telling me once that Navy and Coral were one of the classiest color combinations.
I never forgot.

Enjoy the beautiful combination of Navy and Coral.
I am sure you will agree that Nel was, indeed, a classy lady.

There is something energizing about this color combination. It would be a wonderful choice for a young lady’s room. Or any room, for that matter, that you would love to be filled with confidence and joy. It is also an amazing combination for clothing… it lights your day right up!

What room in your home could use the energizing and classy combination of Navy and Coral?
{thinking of you today, grandma}

must have :: no more boob light
Thursday, March 24, 2011 by {darlene}
{This post is a repost from my family blog. I wanted to share it with you, since I have hopes of replacing my bathroom light soon. You just had to see the “before.”}

I have a boob light.

Actually, we have 2. One in our bathroom {the lovely specimen, seen above}, and one in our hallway.

Hubs and I have been calling these things “boob lights” for years.
Well… they are! sorry.
and they are sorry, sorry excuses for illumination. Mine are on their way out.
How about this one, from Ballard Designs, instead?:

or, I’m thinking more this {Schoolhouse Electric}

or this {Ballard Designs}

or even this in the hallway, strung tightly to the ceiling {Ballard Designs}

Anyone else have a boob light?? fess up.

inspiration :: rooms of gray
Wednesday, March 23, 2011 by {darlene}

I am thinking about gray walls for our living room.
Here are a series of rooms that are simply beautiful, and inspire me to go gray:

this photo reminds me of the bare whites and grays and browns of winter.

the rich gray adds the contrast of earthy modern to the illustrious and stately architecture.

I am adoring the antiqued pencil sketches that throw bright splashes of cream atop a deep, deep gray.

I love everything about the balance in this design. I feel a ditto coming on.

heavy charcoal walls outlined in gray trim. gray on gray = a classy twist for this traditional architecture.

 I love this color. maybe too brown in reality, but, this may be the one… {color is Behr’s “squirrel”}
{via decorpad}

just a tic below black, this charcoal is nothing but pure drama.

I am continuing to notice my love for the combination of grays and browns. and these rooms certainly are amazing examples of that color combination.

I think I may have to go gray at fieldstone hill…
