ditto-worthy :: the drop dead gorgeous home of Olatz Schnabel

The Drop Dead Gorgeous home of Olatz Schnabel

I am absolutely freakin’ WILD about this ditto-worthy home.  Parisian former model, now interior designer and owner the luxury linen shop “Olatz,” Ms. Schnabel has created a drop dead gorgeous NYC home.

Ditto Worthy:

Spare and opulent, all at the same time. Globally inspired and filled with gutsy color choices. A fellow fuchsia and red lover… and throw in some royal purple and seacoast blues for good measure. It is hard to believe that this apartment lies in SoHo. Every drop of it breathes Europe to me. Especially her floor and tile choices. And that headboard; straight out of a hotel I once stayed in in Northern Italy….

But her bed coverlets. I am ready to give a king’s ransom!

Consider me inspired.

I would ditto the coverlets, the rich rich rich colors, the under filled rooms, the rugs, the European and globally found tiles {especially that bathroom}, the bold red around her wardrobe, that headboard, the gorgeous architectural door framing in the picture above, and – probably the only item I can ever truly hope to ditto – the teapot.

What would you ditto from this home?

colorful design board & client sneak peek
Thursday, June 19, 2014 by {darlene}

A Colorful and Happy Living Room

This is a design board that I finished a while ago, and am now getting around to sharing it. What a cheerful space this is!

My client was eager to have a cohesive and comfortable space that met the needs of her family. Particularly important was finding comfortable seating for the comfort hounds in her life. She also wanted color, and a bright and cheerful feeling, while finding a confident mix of patterns. We worked together, first to find a vision for the space that she loved, and then piece by piece to find the perfect resources that would meet her entire family’s needs.

LOVE  the result:

{for more design boards from my portfolio, click here}

What I love about this space:

1. This room is all about color. The citrons! Limes and lemons and tangerines. These amazing shades keep this space feeling fresh and alive.

2. Every shade of green. To take the color scheme of citrons one step deeper, I really played around with the greens. I used tones all the way from deep dark moss, to the bright chartreuse of a new leaf. I love how this gives dimension to the space.

3. The dramatic contrast of navy. Navy has the power of contrast in this space because of all the fantastic citrus brights. And because of all the brights popping to the front, the navy has a grounding effect in the room.

4. Fun with pattern. I am so proud of my client for having the guts to move forward with the fun mixings of pattern! Having the guts always pays off!

5. The pops of poppy! A splash of a gutsy color goes a long way. There is cohesiveness with the same shade of poppy spread around the room in lots of little ways. My faves? Those chairs.

6. Neutral sofas… but not much else. This room includes two of the neutral sofa that you see pictured on the design board. We stuck with neutral for the large purchase of the sofas, but then got brave with everything else. Even the upholstered chairs! And the effect is worth it.

Now for the fun part:

Some pics of the room, in progress. So exciting to see it unfold:

A special thank you to my client for letting me share these pics while her home is In-Progress. Thank you for welcoming us into your home! It is really looking amazing!

What do you think of this eDesign?  Would any of these ideas work for you in your home?

this mission//

My beautiful friend Karin is simply gorgeous inside and out.  And she has a giving spirit and a tender heart for children. Her family has a foundation that focuses on the charitable giving of time and resources, and I so very excited about one of their current projects, The Hope Academy, or Academia de la Esperanza. Can you even imagine? They are building a school! That is SO amazing. And this school will not only help the children, but will also help their parents. You must read more about it here.

I encourage you to follow along on their journey as the school is built! You can go here to Follow the Weisberg foundation on Facebook, and definitely go here to donate {and not just money, but specific items that any budget could handle!}.

this stunning makeover//

I have been meaning to share about this GORG room makeover by Christine Dovey, for oh, a while now. It is glam to the ninth degree, and every detail has been geared toward drama. And this here former opera singer {what, you didn’t know that about me??} is a COMPLETE sucker for a gorgeous music room. I WANT!

this awesome house tour//

My friend Lauren is so very talented. And brilliant. And I love her innate skill with textures, botanicals and neutrals. Take a moment to watch NBC’s Open House Tour on this video and this video, as she brings us into her home for an awesome home tour. You will not regret walking through the doors of her gorgeous home! Enjoy the tour!

So, I may just be a little obsessed with Tea Collection. I think it has something to do with the fact that I have the cutest baby on earth, and she is my first girl and I can’t stop….

Oh, and I love the fact that Tea Collection finds their design inspiration globally. Like I did with Georgia Luisa’s nursery.

They are having a huge sale right now. See that dress down there in the clickable image. Georgia has it. Yep. Who can even resist – honestly?

these great articles for a quality summer//

I always love that Nester reminds us that we only have 18 summers. I need that reminder anew every year.

And so, since my precious summers with my babies are limited, I should be living them the best way that I know how. I love this article, and how it prompts me to hush my inner critic. Essential for me. Because my critic is very loud.

this DIY-worth-doing //

Little Lights candles Just Be PeacefulHave a hallway that needs an impactful design solution? I just love what my friend Julia did over at Cuckoo for Design. This is a simple project that has major wow factor. Definitely a DIY worth doing. And a HUGE congrats to Julia, who was just named one of Domino’s Best DIY blogs.

this must-have item

for a toxic-free house with sparkle,

+ a deal//

This is what I use to clean my house. Oh, and my kids use it too. to clean the house. Because it is all natural, I don’t have to worry about them using it. The cinnamon smell rocks my world, and a little bit goes a super long way {I have had mine for over 6 months}. Perk: despite being all natural, it has MAJOR disinfecting power:

thieves

And this is what I keep in my purse  to clean off my kids germy fingers. Same all natural cinnamon and clove goodness. This tiny bottle kills major germs, for all you germ-a-phobes out there:

thieves hand purifier

And this is what I am giving away for FREE {hooray!} in June. Y’all know how I feel about these amazing oils. We are kind of oil crazy in our family now. Down to the littlest one {she loves Thieves oil for relief of teeth pain, and she loves Gentle Baby}:

client project reveal :: the keeping room
Tuesday, June 10, 2014 by {darlene}

I recently had the joy of working on a lake-facing keeping room for a young family. Sarah (find her wonderful blog here) is such a fun, kind and wonderful client. She and I have a lot in common, as far as our family structure and daily living, so it was very easy for me to put myself in her shoes as I crafted this space.

This was such a fun, colorful project. Our focus was to take advantage of lake views,  keep the space beautiful and colorful, and also keep it practical for a very young family. Here is the design board that I crafted for Sarah:

Ready for the room tour?

It is such a joy when my clients see their project to fruition and begin truly enjoying their spaces. I hope that this room brings Sarah and her family daily joy. Also, I hope you will swing by her blog today, where she is sharing the sources for this fantastic space. This room is filled with some lovely goodies. Bonus: you will love getting to know Sarah. She is such a gifted writer, with a heart of gold.
