One thing that I have been meaning to share more of is:
bits and pieces of our renovation journey here at Fieldstone Hill.

We have been blessed, in ways I cannot possibly begin to explain, and have been able to add-on to our home with a two-story addition.

Sometimes, I have hesitated to share parts of this journey for two main reasons:

  1. I think a home can be filled with beauty regardless of whether your home is big or small. Whether or not you own or rent. Or whether or not you have a big budget or a non-budget. I would never want anyone looking at our home and feeling defeated. Inspired? yes!
  2. Ultimately, treasures on this earth are temporal. And there are things of eternal value that are much more important. My desire is not to glorify my home, but to use it as a blessing for others.
However, I always rejoice in the lives of my friends and blog friends as they are able to make their homes a place of joy and rest. And I love me a pretty house! So I always have fun checking out pictures of renovation projects. Especially when new life comes to old homes!
And that is the story of our home journey: bringing new life to an old home.
Fieldstone Hill is nearly 200 years old.
We find it a thrill to add new life, joy and function to a home that has sheltered American families since prior to the Civil War. I am humbled to think of the footsteps that have graced our worn thresholds.
So, when we had the opportunity to improve our home, we wanted to be true to its heritage. I pray that we were true to that desire, and that we will continue to be true to it. 
Anyway, time for pictures, no?! Today I want to share some before and afters of our home: Before our Addition, and After our Addition.

{Side views. Note the large 3 car, cinderblock garage. This later becomes the foundation for our addition.}

{Views of the side of Fieldstone Hill. The first story windows are our kitchen windows, which later had to be changed… since the wind blew through them and all….}

{View of the back of our home, standing on the ground. Here you can see the back of the 3 car garage, and the ginormous, pressure-treated, presidential-ball-sized, wood deck.}

{View from the bottom side. Here you can see the entrance that, at the time, we had to use as our main entrance. I nearly slipped carrying my brand-new first-born child up these steps! You can also see the red, “unfortunate,” log addition that I posted about here.}

Now, we still have plenty of work to do, and plenty of plans, but that is the fun of it!!

On our Wish List?

  1. Add lovely, copper, outdoor lighting.
  2. Add two sets of double doors in the two pre-built openings at the bottom, with sliding barn doors that function as shutters to cover the openings {that last part may be a bit of a dream…}
  3. Add a brick and stone patio {see that pile of stones in the foreground of the bottom pic? It has been there for 3 years. embarrassing to type that.}
  4. Add steps on the left-hand side of the deck. So we can get out 🙂
So, there you have it. A renovation AND a work in progress. And that is home-ownership, no?

    Wow! Well done. I think you kept the feel of history and incorporated it into the new addition. At least from the look on the outside. Cannot wait to see it as it progresses!

  • I LOVE these house renovation pictures!Your place is so gorgeous! Your pics remind of our first home we bought… built in 1758! A WICKED run down farm house that we restored (well with the help of my dad's talents)LOVED that place! Have fun with your renovation and it's OK to be proud 🙂

    Every time I see your house, I fall more and more in love with it and all its charms. I LOVE all the history there.

    Beautiful…we've been in our home 26 years, one we designed and built. But now we're so attached the only way to get more space would be an add on and yet what we have is enough…as long as our boys quit moving back home for periods of time, lol.

  • Your home is beautiful! But….it is your words I love the most, it is such a blessing to hear someone talk about thier home this way and to feel so blessed by God to have it and to be proud of it's past. Your blog is such a blessing to me, I love pretty homes and designs but I love "pretty" people more (you are pretty inside and out). Thank you for being willing to put your faith out there and plant seeds. Sorry I have only been a silent lurker up until now.

  • I don’t think I ever saw this, what a glorious addition!!! I love it! Such a beautiful home! I can’t imagine ANYTHING like that here…not anything that old or lovely at all!
