ditto :: red, white and blue beauty
Monday, May 30, 2011 by {darlene}

I would much rather be looking you in the eyes and shaking your hand,
but if you have served, or are serving our country… may I humbly say, “Thank you.”

Things like honor and sacrifice and dedication are worthy of many dittos.
Happy Memorial Day, and God bless you and your families for your service.

Our homes are safe and happy and peaceful.
because of you.

Now. I think some Red, White and Blue is in high order, don’t you?
a ditto-worthy patriotic space:

{house beautiful}

ditto :: what I would steal from this space:

  1. americana antlers. There is nothing more American than red, white, blue and snag-your-own-food-from-the-wild,-then-display-above-mantle. And a strong focal piece above the mantle reminds us that the hearth was and is the center of the American home.
  2. warm and cool. The warmth of a fireplace and natural stones fit perfectly with the cool, crisp and fresh red, white and blue. This is how to “do summer” next to your fireplace. S’mores anyone?
  3. having a sitting area right by the hearth. The coziest place in the house: these chairs are parked in the perfect spot. Even with all this warm weather, this cozy spot still manages to entice me.
  4. cornflower blue barn-siding walls. A great choice of blue. One of my favorite of the 64 crayons.
  5. pure white accents offering a silhouette against dark walls. White objects have more power and drama when placed against a dark background. And I love me some drama.
  6. a graphic, bright rug {or is that painted on the floor?}. This pattern is beautiful. And I love the gutsy element of throwing in a strong dose of red on the floor.
  7. an ottoman and tray that nestle between the sitting area.  With the tray, we have a fantastic place to set our mug, our flowers and our novel. Take off the tray, and the ottoman also serves as a great place to warm your toes by the fire. I adore dual-purpose furnishings. Makes so much sense.
  8. navy seersucker classic fabric, mixed with playful, modern geometrics. Fun.
  9. simple, nearly bare windows, painted to match the wall color. This adds a touch of minimalism to a space filled with texture and character {the barn siding, the stones, the wood floor}.
What do you love about this space? What would you ditto??
