A Colorful and Happy Living Room

This is a design board that I finished a while ago, and am now getting around to sharing it. What a cheerful space this is!

My client was eager to have a cohesive and comfortable space that met the needs of her family. Particularly important was finding comfortable seating for the comfort hounds in her life. She also wanted color, and a bright and cheerful feeling, while finding a confident mix of patterns. We worked together, first to find a vision for the space that she loved, and then piece by piece to find the perfect resources that would meet her entire family’s needs.

LOVE  the result:

What I love about this space:

1. This room is all about color. The citrons! Limes and lemons and tangerines. These amazing shades keep this space feeling fresh and alive.

2. Every shade of green. To take the color scheme of citrons one step deeper, I really played around with the greens. I used tones all the way from deep dark moss, to the bright chartreuse of a new leaf. I love how this gives dimension to the space.

3. The dramatic contrast of navy. Navy has the power of contrast in this space because of all the fantastic citrus brights. And because of all the brights popping to the front, the navy has a grounding effect in the room.

4. Fun with pattern. I am so proud of my client for having the guts to move forward with the fun mixings of pattern! Having the guts always pays off!

5. The pops of poppy! A splash of a gutsy color goes a long way. There is cohesiveness with the same shade of poppy spread around the room in lots of little ways. My faves? Those chairs.

6. Neutral sofas… but not much else. This room includes two of the neutral sofa that you see pictured on the design board. We stuck with neutral for the large purchase of the sofas, but then got brave with everything else. Even the upholstered chairs! And the effect is worth it.

Now for the fun part:

Some pics of the room, in progress. So exciting to see it unfold:

  • I love everything about this room! Seriously, there isn’t one thing I would change! Beautiful job!

  • I’m glad I clicked over to see this. It’s pretty. I’ll admit, though, that I find myself rarely clicking through the email to come see your posts now that there are just a few lines of text and no pretty pictures to draw me in. Your blog and a few others I’m subscribed to have gone that route of text only snippets in the email and I just find myself deleting the email without clicking through. I’m trying so hard to clear my email box quickly that it’s easy to resist when there isn’t a pretty picture. Good for my time management, but not so good for you bloggers…

    • Thank you for letting me know. The reason why I had to switch was for legal reasons due to sponsors {complicated, blah, blah, blah}, and also, there are “crawlers” who steal your content from emails {happens more than you can imagine}, and then take credit for the content. Someday, I hope to subscribe to a service that would remove some of these challenges – not the legal one with certain sponsor, but it is costly. I am so glad you shared.
